1st Floor, West Wing, Gallery of Early Flight, Gallery 107 Floor Plan

An updating and reconceptionalization of Early Flight, this gallery reveals how 19th-century pioneers laid the foundation for the invention of the airplane. During the single decade that separated the first powered flights of the Wright brothers from the opening guns of a World War, flight technology made considerable strides; exercised an enormous impact on the public imagination; and demonstrated its potential to effect revolutionary social, political, and economic change.
